Our company is taking significant steps to reduce our environmental impact and promote sustainable practices within the construction industry.
Our dedication to sustainability and eco-friendly construction is evident through our recent investments in equipment, making NW Groundwork a beacon of environmental responsibility in the field.
A Cleaner Approach to Excavation
One of our recent eco-friendly investments is the Kubota KX060-5 excavator. This advanced piece of machinery is engineered with improved emissions technology, significantly reducing the carbon footprint associated with excavation and earthmoving activities. It's powerful low emission Stage V-compliant engine and load-sensing hydraulic system ensures greater fuel economy, enhances operational efficiency and contributes to cleaner air quality.
A cleaner, safer work environment
We promote rigorous hygiene practices at all our sites and have recently commissioned a solar-powered boot wash to our own design. The boot wash helps to prevent the spread of contaminants and reduces the potential for slips and falls due to slippery surfaces. We also capture and manage the runoff water from the cleaning process, which helps to prevent soil and contaminants from being carried into waterways. As it's solar powered, it can be placed anywhere, and reduces our environmental footprint.
We have also invested in new drip trays and spill kits. The drip trays help to prevent cross-contamination and ensure that hazardous substances do not enter the environment, protecting local ecosystems by stopping soil and contaminants being carried into groundwater.
Construction sites often contain sensitive ecosystems or are located near water bodies. Should the worst happen, our spill kits minimise the risk of pollutants entering the soil, groundwater, or nearby waterways.
Construction sites often produce significant amounts of dust, so to help maintain better air quality, we have invested in a new dust suppression unit. Designed to mitigate and control dust, it uses water to dampen dust particles, reducing their ability to become airborne, improving site visibility and reducing health risks for workers.
Sustainability in Action
We recently invested in an electric powered off-road bike, which allows our team to access even the most remote corners of larger sites, like the renewable energy site at Chester Protos, without leaving a lasting environmental impact.
Our projects often unfold within ecologically sensitive areas, and the bike is particularly of value when working on sites of special scientific interest, or in delicate wildlife conservation areas like the new habitats at Chester Protos.
Our vehicles use AdBlue to reduce the harmful emissions of nitrogen oxides from diesel engines, converting the NOx into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.
We've recently invested in our own AdBlue tanks, helping to reduce plastic waste.
Prioritising Sustainability
With the investment in solar-powered equipment and zero emissions vehicles, we are prioritising sustainability in our daily operations and minimising our reliance on non-renewable energy sources, further lowering our carbon footprint.
Our commitment to reducing our environmental impact also brings tangible benefits our clients by leading to reduced operational costs. Our commitment to sustainability sets a positive example for the construction sector and proves that construction and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand.
