NW Groundwork & Civil Engineering was proud to support this year’s Bury Hospice Dragon Boat Race, helping the event raise just over £15,000 for a charity that provides vital care for people and families across Bury.

The event took place at Elton Sailing Club on Saturday 9 May, bringing teams together on Elton Reservoir for a day of dragon boat racing, fundraising games and community support. Each dragon boat team is made up of 16 rowers and one drummer, with crews racing against the clock while raising money for Bury Hospice.

For NW Groundwork Managing Director Mark Aspin, the sponsorship carried a very personal meaning. The company supported the fundraising games in memory of Mark’s friend and colleague, Ian Dunn.

Mark said: “We were proud to support the Bury Hospice Dragon Boat Race, but for me this was also very personal. We sponsored the fundraising games in memory of my friend and colleague Ian, who was a much-loved part of our team and is still greatly missed.

“Bury Hospice does incredible work for people and families when they need care, dignity and support the most. To see the event raise just over £15,000 is fantastic, and we are pleased to have played a small part in helping that happen.”

Bury Hospice has been supporting patients and families across Bury since 1991, providing palliative and end-of-life care through its inpatient unit, community outreach, respite support, complementary therapies and bereavement support.

The Dragon Boat Race continues to be an important community fundraising event for the hospice, bringing local businesses, supporters and families together for a fun and memorable day with a serious purpose behind it.

NW Groundwork would like to thank Bury Hospice for organising the event and everyone who took part, donated, volunteered or supported the day.
