Northwest Groundwork were contracted by Natural Power to improve the roads at the Mynydd Portref Wind Farm in Wales.
Access to the turbines was originally via a series of tracks that were narrow, muddy and potholed as you can see from the pictures below.
Natural Power required improvements to the road network in order to provide access for a 200-tonne crane, which was needed to effect repairs to three of the wind turbines.
The narrow tracks needed to be widened, and so the edges of the tracks were carefully stripped of vegetation and dug out with new stone added.
The tracks also had to be re-graded to support the weight of the crane, so NW Groundwork dug out, levelled and added stone before re-compacting each layer of the roadway.
